SENFI-UK is SCG's first overseas R&D centre, which takes chemistry developed at the CoE directly to market

Discoveries at the CoE led to SCG launching the CIERRA™functional materials platform. Three commercial functional materials products deriving from this platform technology are being launched by SCG:

CIERRA™Flame Retardan; Non-halogen flame retardant

CIERRA™ CO2 Capture; CO₂ capture solution for Polyurethane able to be applied from glazing adhesive in automotive to hot-melt in sportswear.

CIERRA™ Barrier; Recyclable monomaterial films for food packaging

In 2017 SCG created a wholly-owned UK subsidiary, SENFI-UK, based at the University of Oxford Begbroke Science Park. SENFI-UK is SCG's first overseas R&D centre, which takes chemistry developed at the CoE directly to market.

On 30 May 2019, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata witnessed the opening of the SCG Advanced Materials Laboratory at Begbroke Science Park, University of Oxford. This laboratory represents the continuing collaboration between SCG Chemicals Co.,Ltd. and the University of Oxford. The two facilities in the laboratory are fitted with safe, state-of-the-art and top modern scientific tools to produce smart material such as CIERRA, a non-toxic food grade coating for a safe, wrinkle-resistant and environmentally-friendly food packaging in a trial volume. The discovery of this laboratory will be further translated into a commercial purpose in the near future.

Ambassador Pisanu also witnessed the signing ceremony of a Framework Cooperation Agreement with a view to extending collaboration between SCG Chemicals Co.,Ltd. and the University of Oxford until 2025. This agreement will serve as a basis for future research & development cooperation, and new innovation for the business of the SCG and for the benefit of humankind.

The collaboration between the SCG Group and the University of Oxford is an important model for Thai businesses, who realise the significance of R&D as an effective driving force for world-class status and successful business operation. This best practice of the SCG also represents its far-sighted vision to access to the scientific and technological progress and development of the UK with a view to innovating new discoveries for sustainable benefits of humankind. In addition to expressing our sincere congratulations and appreciation to the achievement of a flagship company from Thailand as the SCG, the Royal Thai Embassy stands ready to be a path-finder for any interested Thai business who wants to explore available technologies and innovations from the UK for the purpose of successful business development and to complement Thailand's National Strategy and the Vision Thailand 4.0.
